4.  Link to the participant information guidelines that are posted on the web

Meeting at 8.30am at the carpark of East Perth Bus Station on Saturday May 4th

Here is a link to a google map http://goo.gl/maps/SNwvP
Please please be there by 8.30am.  We need to pack everyone’s luggage in, and be on the road by 9.30 am sharp.

PLEASE BRING A PACKED LUNCH WITH YOU FOR THIS DAY!  (The only day we ask this 😉 just makes the whole thing easier coz we wont have time for a big communal lunch)

The bus will also be departing from 17 Samson st,  Fremantle at 7.30am so if this is an easier option for you then be here at 6.45am..
2.WHAT TO BRING:  Here’s a few important things:
  • Tent
  • Sleeping bag & mat
  • Torch
  • Raincoat
  • Sunhat & sunscreen
  • Toiletries
  • Warm and cool clothing (good idea to have a long-sleeve collared shirt for sun protection, and thermals, gloves, beanie.  It gets cold at night out there!!)
  • Some washing detergent/soap to wash undies when we have a chance (in buckets still with limited water)
  • Wash Cloth – Desert Nanna Hot Tip # 1:  Cutting up an old towel (or using a facewasher) for wash cloths is a great way to have a wash with very little water required –  (coz we won’t be having many showers 🙂 )
  • Personal spending money (Not many places to spend it!!)
  • Pen
  • Camera
  • Journal
  • Sunscreen
  • Blister care (we will have 1st aid kits with us, but idea gd to bring your own pawpaw/bandaid/blister care stuff)
  • Waterbottle
  • Daypack.
Please ensure you bring your own eating utensils including a bowl or plate, container to pack your lunch, mug & cutlery. You are responsible for your own luggage.

Desert Nanna Hot Tip #2:
We are all gonna be stinky out there together – if you’re wanting to pack any extra clothing, just make it an extra pair of socks, long sleeve shirt, hat and make sure you have thermals&warm jumper)

Thanks to all who have already paid for bus and food, and paid in advance for the days they know they are joining the walk.  The bus is full, so if you haven’t indicated to me that you need a ride on the bus, please get in touch asap, Marcus: 0400 505 765 or email walk4country@gmail.com

It costs $80 for the bus (one way) 🙂  Payment for the bus would be welcome before we leave, deposits into FANG account with your last name and “bus” in the reference line.

Or just confirm with me that you will pay on the day..

If you’re getting a lift up with someone in their car, please arrange between yourselves to share petrol costs.

The only other costs for the walk is the $5-$10 a day to join.  If you think you’ll have trouble paying this, that’s ok, just get in touch with me and we can sort something out.

Payments are welcome now, or before we leave as the only atm you’ll have a chance to get to is in Kalgoorlie and Leonora.

Invitation to join Walkatjurra Walkabout

Its 3 weeks to go till we head out bush again for another exciting chapter in building solidarity with the local Aboriginal community and growing the resistance to uranium mining..

The Federal Environment Minister Tony Burke gave conditional approval for the Wiluna Uranium mine last week and things are really heating up..  There is an International crew committed to coming for the walk this year and a lot of people traveling from over East to be here as well..

If you can’t make it over for the walk then please consider making a donation to help us bring all this together..

The Walkatjurra Walkabout is set for the 4th – 28th of May, 2013 and it looks like being even bigger than last years walk.

The walk will continue to be a celebration of Wangkatja country, a testament to the strength of the community who have fought to stop uranium mining at Yeelirrie for over forty years, and a chance to come together and continue to share our commitment to a sustainable future without nuclear.  It is a chance to reconnect with the land, and to revive the tradition of walking for country.

Register here to be a part of the walk: https://walkingforcountry.com/registration-to-walk-for-country/

You can also make a tax deductible donation (IN AUSTRALIA) to the walk through Everyday Hero or deposit straight in to our bank account at https://walkingforcountry.com/donate-to-walkajurra-walkabout-walking-for-country/

For those of you in the USA you can make a Tax Deductible donation at www.footprintsforpeace.org

Can you take a minute to help spread the word:

Walkatjurra Walkabout will be heading to FRANCE in July, 2013

Footprints for peace and the Walkatjurra walkabout will be heading to France on the 20th of June 2013.

Footprints for Peace has had a long relationship with the Reseau Sortir du nucleaire since we walked London to Geneva in 2008. Members from the Reseau Sortir du nucleaire have came to participate in the Walkatjurra Walkabout and now they have invited us to come back to France to spread the message of the resistance to uranium mining in Australia..

It is crucial that we help raise some funds for getting Kado Muir and other Aboriginal community members to France to share their stories and help build the International movement to end the nuclear chain.

Anyone who would like to contribute to this can make a tax deductible donation to the Walkatjurra Walkabout or please contact us directly if you would like more information..

If you have a lot of frequent flyer points you could also consider using them to help Kado or one of the mob get to France..

Big thanks to everyone who has sent us food and monetary donations, messages of support and just all the messages from around the world to let us know that you will be walking with us in solidarity by the work you are doing in your community..

Peace & Solidarity
