Walkatjurra Walkabout begins in April

Walkatjurra Walkabout
Walkatjurra Walkabout
Hope that you are all getting excited about the Walk that begins April
This year is looking like being even bigger than the previous walks and you need to get in now to secure your seat on the bus!!
Take a look through our collection of photo’s from other walks and imagine yourself out on Country learning, sharing and taking action to stop uranium mining on this amazing land..
We will be joined by many of the Traditional custodians of the land and it is a huge journey of not just walking the land, but also learning about the culture of this area and becoming a part of the community..
Looking forward to getting out on Country with you all.

Please share this with all your friends

For those of you who are coming from outside of Australia please hold on to your money and give it to the Walk when you arrive…
We don’t want the banks getting any of your hard earned cash on transfer fees..
We are asking people to contribute $8 – $13 per person per day.  This helps to pay for support vehicles, food and associated costs of the walk.
No one gets paid to organize or participate in this and everything is done on a volunteer basis.
Please contact us if the $8 – $13 dollars a day is beyond your means and we can make other arrangements.
The sooner that you can deposit this money the easier it is for us to buy food and necessary supplies for the walk..
Direct Deposit

BSB: 633-000
Account Number: 137443347
Reference: Walk (and your name)
We have a 22 seater bus to help transport people to Yeelirree for the beginning of the walk. The cost is $100 one way ($200 return). To secure your seat on the bus we ask that you direct deposit $100 ($200 return) into the same account but with a different reference.

We will run on a first in first seat basis for the bus … so please make sure you contact us. Once the bus is full we will make other arrangements but this may end up a bit more expensive. You cannot get to Yeelirree by public transport, and from Perth it is 1100kms, so this makes logistics very hard if you don’t contact us.
We encourage you to write a personal message to your friends, family and any lists that you are on to spread the word and encourage people to make a tax-deductible donation that is possible through Everyday Hero.
Wednesday 23rd April 2014
9.00am East Perth Train Station
Please bring a packed lunch for this day.
We will stay at the Wongutha Birni Aboriginal Cultural Centre in Kalgoorlie on this night before heading to Yeelirree on April 24th.
If anyone needs a place to stay in Fremantle / Perth area on 22nd April (or before) then please let us know and we will sort something out.
Please let us know if you are driving up with your own vehicle and how many people will be with you. This will help us with the logistics of cars and food.  Please remember that we are going remote and that food is expensive, its better to buy bulk in Perth – so let us know numbers of people.
We will be camping under the stars every night and at times we will have access to showers (there are 3 solar showers but water is scare so we need to be resourceful with water)
Please be prepared for camping!!! You will need to bring all your own equipment, ie: sleeping bag & mat, tent or swag etc.
Please ensure you have your own eating utensils including a bowl or plate and mug. You are responsible for your own eating utensils for the duration of the walk.
We have a kitchen support truck that also has a 1000 litre water tank.
The meals will be primarily vegetarian with the occasional goanna or kangaroo if we are lucky!!
The food is the responsibility of the group and we will develop a roster for camp set up and cooking during our two-day camp at Yeelirree.
There will be gluten free options most times, but if you have a special diet it will be your own responsibility to take care of these needs.
Please be prepared to help with cooking and cleaning responsibilities.
We request that all luggage and equipment is kept as light and compact as possible.
Please let us know if you plan on bringing guitars or other musical instruments… This is just to keep track of things as we don’t have the space to carry 10 guitars… If there are 2 or 3 then we can share and enjoy this together.
You will need a day pack to carry your basic needs for the day’s walk: water bottle, hat, rain jacket, camera etc.
This will be our third walk out on Wangkatja country and it’s a very special event thanks to the amazing effort and energy of all that come out to participate.  We hope that you will enjoy this time to walk, share, connect, listen and learn from the elders to the young ones.
