This is just a quick update to let you all know of a few things coming up in Perth that I hope some of you can make it to..

We are getting ready for the Australia Nuclear Free Alliance meeting in Alice Springs – this is where the power is in the strong and determined community resistance. ANFA hosts an annual meeting with Traditional Owners from around the country and we are planning to take the bus over with an awesome crew from Western Australia.

Please either donate here or come to an extremely fun fundraiser event we’re hosting – Cabaret Quiz Night – with amazing food by Mama Pacha, drinks, music with the Merindas!!!! And Quiz Master with WANFA’s own rockstar Della Rae Morrison.

It would be great to see a bunch of walkers get a couple of tables with thier friends for a fun night out

Also as you may have already heard on the news Tony Abbott has signed a deal to supply Australian uranium to India, ignoring widespread opposition to nuclear power within India, ongoing reports of safety issues and admissions about Australian uranium freeing up domestic supplies for weapons production.

Unfortunately this deal has boosted the share price of Toro Energy – proponents of the Wiluna uranium mines  who are now promoting the deal as a reason to progress the mine http://www.miningnewspremium.net/

A terrifying thought that Uranium from WA could be mined and sold overseas to be used in unwanted and unsafe reactors while also allowing India to free up it’s own uranium for its nuclear weapons program.

MAYORS for PEACE

On Sunday September the 21st there will be a Peace Walk to celebrate the opening of the Fremantle Peace Grove on the Cnr of Lefroy & Carrington. Join us at Bathers Beach in Fremantle at 10am to walk to the Peace Grove arriving at 12.30 for a BYO picnic to enjoy music, talks and more..

The following day Monday 22nd of September is the Mayors for Peace event in Fremantle that will include a talk by Junko Morimoto a Hiroshima A-Bomb survivor. Everyone is invited to attend this civil society component of the Mayors for Peace regional conference at the Fremantle Town Hall on Monday 22nd of September 1pm – 3pm
