‘Walkatjurra Walkabout – Walking for Country’
is a celebration of Wangkatja country, a testament to the strength of the community who have fought to stop uranium mining at Yeelirrie for over forty years, and a chance to come together to continue share our commitment to a sustainable future without nuclear. It is a chance to reconnect with the land, and to revive the tradition of walking for country.
Sorry for not getting an update out for a while.. I’ve been on an epic bus driving mission to Canberra. We drove a group from the Nyoongar Tent Embassy to Canberra for the invasion day and Freedom Summit. Just returned to what looks like being a massive year on all fronts..
The Walkatjurra Walkabout is set to begin in August this year with the bus leaving Perth on the 17th of August – returning on the 18th of September….
This will be our 5th year Anniversary and it will be going back to basics!!! We will be starting from Wiluna again and a bit more walking than last year and there looks like being a delegation coming from Japan, USA and possibly Canada…
Save the Date and more info coming soon

Can you help get ANFA to Canada for the World uranium symposium
With Cameco set to get approval for the uranium mine at Kintyre, WA they are also targeting the Yeelirrie deposit near Leonora, WA.
We are currently organising an Aboriginal delegation to go to Quebec, Canada for the World Uranium Symposium. This will be a great opportunity for ANFA delgates to tell people what Cameco are doing in Australia, while also forming a strong alliances with First Nations who are fighting Cameco on uranium mining in Canada.
WE NEED YOUR HELP TO GET THEM THERE..please take a look at the fundraising page to get ANFA to the world uranium symposium in Canada. Mr Cooke and the other Co-Chairs of the Australia Nuclear Free Alliance have been invited to talk about the issues we face here in Australia and particularly the impacts on communities. Your support means a lot to make this international solidarity happen and will help us grow links with Canada – the home country of Cameco the most aggressive uranium company in WA with proposals to mine uranium at Kintyre and Yeelirrie. You can make a tax deductible donation or receive a gift for your donation. Donate here.
More news on Kintyre!!
Last week the WA Environment Minister decided to dismiss all our appeals against the Kintyre uranium mine. In the next few weeks we can expect the Minister to make a decision to approve the Kintyre uranium mine in an area that was cut out of the Karlamilyi (Rudall River) National Park, in Martu Native Title determined country. This fragile desert ecosystem is about to be compromised by this Government to advance the corporate interests of a Canadian mining giant – Cameco who have a shocking operating and corporate behavior record. Please stay posted for any actions – text “Rapid Response” to 0415380808 to be on our rapid response action text out (with or without your name up to you).
